High Power Model Rocketry 2019 Class / Service Offering

Build and learn sessions will be held Thursdays for eight weeks, at HobbyTown in the Rec Room. This is where you learn to build and safely fly the BIG rockets!

Two registration steps are involved:

STEP 1 – Visit or Message HobbyTown in Alamosa. Make sure Matt knows you want to be in the high power rocketry class.

STEP 2 – Before launch day, join the National Association of Rocketry at http://www.nar.org/join-nar/

PREREQUISITES:
– HPR1 certification requires NAR membership prior to launch day (step 2 above)
– Age 14+, no exceptions.
– Must have prior rocketry experience and be competent in basic low power rocketry. OR be 18+ and have an experienced sponsor/helper accompany you. Sponsor/helpers are easy to find. Just let us know if you need one.

INCLUDED MATERIALS IN KIT AND CLASS:
a. High Power Capable Rocket; Madcow Bat Ray, RP Epoch, Sport X, DX3 Jr., or similarly capable model.
b. All relevant accessories (engine adapters, engine retainers etc)
c. All printed class materials, forms, and instructions in a booklet.
d. Most consumables (epoxy, etc).
e. Relevant High Power engine which you will receive on Launch Day during your certification attempt in accordance with NAR policy and procedure.

PLEASE BRING:
Simple rocket construction materials and tools including razor knife, sandpaper, masking tape, paint, pen, pencil, etc plus confirmation of NAR membership.
A laptop with OpenRocket or RocSim installed. If you don’t have a laptop, you can use the HobbyTown laptop.

Projected Costs:
-NAR Membership cost ranges $25-$62 depending on age and level of membership. http://www.nar.org/join-nar/
-HP Rocket, engine, supplementary parts, consumables, helpers, printed materials, and equipment will cost approximately $125.

If you are an existing Level 1 or above rocketeer you are encouraged (and appreciated) to join us informally. Pick up a kit and come build with us. No registration is needed – Just buy a kit and show up.
